Dubuque Figure Skating was honored to present the Carter Ray Giese Award to 4 outstanding young athletes in our club.

Carter Giese was a talented athlete whose positive attitude was an encouragement to everyone he met. Although his life was cut short in 2013 when he died in a car accident, his memory continues to inspire.

The Dubuque Figure Skating club awards an annual scholarship to athletes who demonstrate the same qualities that Carter exemplified. The scholarship is supported by the Carter R. Giese Endowment Fund, which is held by the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque. The fund helps local youth access recreational opportunities and supports programs that build strong character values.

The following skaters received the Carter Ray Giese Award in recognition of their leadership, team camaraderie, sportsmanship and a willingness to assist and encourage their fellow skaters:

Melissa Hermsen, Morgan Dalsing, Natalie Kuhle, and William Manos
